What is an Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) attack?

An Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) attack intercepts communication between a user and a legitimate service in order to capture sensitive information, such as login credentials or authentication tokens. The user believes they are communicating with the genuine service, while their exchanges actually pass through an intermediary controlled by an attacker.
