AI: rules and laws to come
Artificial intelligence is advancing quickly, and the debates about how to govern it are now on a scale commensurate with its influence. Large technology companies are proposing their own control mechanisms, governments are developing their regulatory approaches, and independent scientific bodies are helping define the principles of responsible artificial intelligence.
These discussions are necessary. They will shape part of the environment in which companies, public bodies, and institutions will use artificial intelligence over the coming years.
Quantum Beyond occupies a different position in this ecosystem. Our mission is to support organizations across the Americas in their transformation, strengthen their capabilities, and help them move forward with confidence in a technology environment that is continually changing. Our principles of security, sovereignty, resilience, and digital trust stem from one fundamental conviction: technology must serve the people in the organizations that use it.
The governance of artificial intelligence could take several forms. Some industry players favor self-regulation mechanisms. Governments are developing laws, policies, and requirements that will necessarily evolve alongside the technologies. Scientific and academic organizations are also making an important contribution to the debate.
Mila is an interesting example of this third path. The Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute explicitly writes ethics, social awareness, and the development of AI for the benefit of all into its mission. Its governance work aims in particular to bring scientific research and public policy closer together and to promote responsible AI.
We take a favorable view of the participation of independent scientific organizations and governments in developing the frameworks that will accompany artificial intelligence. This diversity of expertise helps build rules grounded in knowledge, security, economic realities, and the human consequences of these technologies.
Quantum Beyond's purpose, however, is not to decide which rules should apply to the industry as a whole. Our responsibility begins with our clients.
A manufacturing company, a financial institution, a government body, a technology company, or a healthcare organization must be able to use artificial intelligence while knowing how it fits into its operations, its responsibilities, its data, and its obligations.
This preparation demands more than a selection of technology tools. It touches governance, cybersecurity, identity and access, data sovereignty, risk management, human skills, operational processes, and the organization's ability to adapt its practices when its environment changes.
The rules will evolve. So will the technologies. An organization prepared for that evolution will be able to absorb new requirements without having to continually rebuild its digital environment. Clear governance, a secure architecture, sound knowledge of the data and systems in use, and an internal capacity to understand AI create that adaptability.
This approach also shapes how we work with the teams already in place. Adopting artificial intelligence benefits from building on the human capabilities that already exist within the organization. Employees know the operations, the clients, the constraints, and the realities of their business. Technology augments that organizational intelligence when it is integrated methodically. Quantum Beyond will help build that capability.
When new regulatory obligations appear, when new standards are adopted, and as technologies evolve, we will support people and their organizations in implementing and integrating them, and we will work with their teams to assess the opportunities, the risks, and the adjustments required. That continuity matters more than the exact shape the regulation eventually takes.
No one today can definitively write the rules for a technology that is evolving this quickly. Governments, scientific bodies, technology companies, and society will continue to contribute according to their respective responsibilities.
Quantum Beyond has chosen its own: to serve the organizations that must turn these technological advances into concrete, secure, resilient, and lasting capabilities.
Engineering the Next Frontier means, for us, preparing organizations to move forward with technology while retaining mastery of their decisions, their data, their infrastructure, and their responsibilities. The frameworks will change. The technologies will advance. New possibilities will appear.
Our commitment will remain the same: to support our clients through these transformations, strengthen their teams, and put our expertise at the service of their success, with one priority that will always guide our work: the benefit of people first.
